House Committee Minutes

American Legion Post 16 House Committee

Monday, April 1, 2024
The meeting was called to order at 1800 by Gayle Frevert, Committee Chair
Roll Call: Gayle Frevert, Ron Albin, Ron Miller, Bill Jepsen, Yancey Cortner, & Dave Pinnt were all present;  Kent Von Kampen, Post Commander, was traveling & called in to participate. Rick Kropf was also present.
Old Business:
  1. Progress is being made on getting the floors in the back cleaned up but it’s not finished yet.
  2. Color guard uniforms: Dave Pinnt agreed to look at the uniform items in the closet in the back to see if any need to be replaced.
  3. Utility room still needs to be straightened up & organized. Bill Jepsen will work on this project.
  4. There is a box of empty picture frames that are available if anyone wants them, otherwise they will be donated.
  5. Gayle & LeAnn Weich will work on getting meeting times & contact information on the Post doors & windows.
  6. Yancey & Kent will work on an “Electronics User Manual” (i.e. “go-by”) renters to use.
  7. Bill Jepsen reported that baseboard installation has been completed & is touching up drywall in the back.
  8. The old Zoll defibrillator was discussed. It would need costly new batteries & computer updating. Since the post has the new AED/defibrillator, it was agreed upon to dispose of the item. Bill Jepsen will reach out to FRHS if they have a need or use for it & if not, it will be donated or discarded.
New Business:
  1. Advertising post availability: Yancey will work on posting pictures & contact information on our Legion Facebook & web site as well as Madison County Exchange on Facebook.
  2. Rick Kropf & Thomas Landkammer reported that they’re concerned that the eagle on top of the flag pole is loose. The flags have temporarily been removed & LOVE Signs has been contacted
  3. Calendar: it was discussed how to get an electronic calendar listing different activities so members know when/where their help can be used. Yancey Cortner is working on this.
  4. It was requested that the Post have their own POW/MIA table set-up. A motion was made & approved to purchase the items through the American Legion Flag & Emblem. The cost of the table items is $95 plus tax/shipping & handling. Dave Pinnt has offered to pay for the supplies. Bill Jepsen is looking into the table needed for the display.
  5. “Wall of Honor”: it was recommended by the committee that the wall on the west side of the large window be reconfigured to include the current leadership plus those individuals who have served at the state or higher level. This will be brought to the membership for discussion & voting at the next post meeting, Monday April 8th.
There will be no meeting in May. The next meeting will be @ 1800 prior to the regular Post meeting on Monday, June 10th. The meeting was adjourned at 1850.
